Slope monitoring at Ligeder
The main road in Volkmannsdorf runs above the roughly 45° steep slope of the “Ligeder Berg” with the Deutsche Bahn railway line located at its base. After a sidewalk was added along the main road, cracks appeared in the asphalt, running parallel to the slope. A geological report recommended reinforcing the slope—at a cost of several million euros—to ensure long-term stability.
On behalf of the Freising State Building Authority and ZIG, we created four measurement profiles, each with three foundations, and installed three sensors that could be relocated if necessary. From August 2020 to March 2022, the slope was continuously monitored in real time using state-of-the-art GNSS technology ahead of the planned construction works. The monitoring results showed that slope nailing would not be required.
In August 2023, the municipality of Wang began renovating the Untere Hauptstraße along the Ligeder Berg. For safety reasons, and in line with Deutsche Bahn requirements, we monitored the project until February 2024.
